Sir Bruce Small Park upgrade

Sir Bruce Small Park is an important community space used for organised sport, informal recreation and social connection. As our city continues to grow, we're planning upgrades to the park to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the local community and sporting organisations.

We’re developing a concept plan that will guide upgrades and improvements to the park. A concept plan is a high-level document that sets the direction for development.

This plan includes a range of improvements including:

  • enhancing existing sporting facilities to support growing participation
  • relocating netball from Benowa Road Reserve, to meet increasing participation in the sport
  • improving playgrounds, picnic areas and community facilities
  • improving connections and pathways
  • improving parking to reduce congestion and support park users
  • landscaping and environmental enhancements.

Phase 1 consultation is now open

Consultation is open from Tuesday 28 July to Tuesday 18 August. This first phase of consultation is focused on understanding what people value about the park, what challenges exist and what should be considered as the draft concept plan is developed.

We want to know:

  • how you currently use the park
  • what you value most about the park
  • what you would like to see improved or added.

At this stage, we’re not looking for feedback on our draft sketch plans as they are subject to change. Your feedback will be used to refine the draft concept plan which you’ll be able to comment on in Phase 2.

What happens next?

Phase 2 consultation

We have been consulting with directly impacted sports clubs to understand their future requirements. A draft sketch plan (below) has provided a starting point for these conversations with clubs, to help understand their requirements.

Your feedback in Phase 1 consultation will be used to refine the sketch to a draft concept plan which will be shared with you in Phase 2 consultation.

The second round of consultation will give you the opportunity to:

  • review the draft concept plan
  • provide feedback on proposed improvements
  • help shape the final concept plan.

This is a draft sketch plan and is subject to change. Community consultation will help inform how this sketch is updated and refined.

An engagement report will be published after each phase of consultation so that you can review the consultation results. When the draft concept plan is finalised, it will be published on this page.

Detailed design will occur as a separate process once the final concept plan has been adopted.
