Snapper Rocks to Rainbow Bay Foreshore Precinct Draft Master Plan
The Snapper Rocks to Rainbow Bay foreshore is one of the Gold Coast’s most significant and iconic coastal locations. Treasured by locals and visited by millions each year, it is renowned for its pristine beaches, world-class surf break and stunning vistas.
With future infrastructure works required, including an upgraded seawall to protect from erosion, and increasing demand for access to the precinct, the City must ensure these works are delivered in a coordinated way that protects the area’s natural character while enhancing safety, access and amenity. Equally, it is our priority to retain the unique charm that makes this foreshore so loved and renowned.
That’s why we’re working with the local community to draft a master plan for the future of the precinct.
This will:
- Protect the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the foreshore.
- Guide how future public infrastructure upgrades are delivered so they respect the unique character of the area.
- Keep the precinct safe, accessible and vibrant for generations to come.
The City has essential work ahead to protect the dunes and beach, and upgrades to amenities such as accessible public toilets and footpath widening are required. The plan will ensure the upgrades will be coordinated the qualities that make this place so special are retained.
Community and local stakeholder feedback – including from the Rainbow Bay Surf Lifesaving Club – has significantly influenced and guided this plan. Since late last year we’ve;
- Held 6 pop-up kiosks on the foreshore, speaking to over 700 people.
- Held 6 key stakeholder workshops on the draft plan.
- Held 2 surveys on GC Have Your Say, with a combined 2600 responses.
- Had multiple conversations with representatives from the Rainbow Bay Surf Lifesaving Club and Snapper Rocks Surfriders.
The Rainbow Bay Surf Lifesaving Club and Snapper Rocks Surfriders both support our plan.
Now we want to hear from the community again.
