Robina Central Planning Review

The City of Gold Coast is committed to planning for our ever-growing city, by providing for housing choice, growing jobs and creating attractive places for our community. Infrastructure also needs to be planned and delivered to meet the future needs of our community.

Robina Central is a Key regional centre that has established a broad range of employment, services, community facilities and residential developments. Planning for Robina Central is currently governed by the Local Government (Robina Central Planning Agreement) Act 1992 which has not been holistically reviewed since 1999.

It is important that Robina Central’s future is developed in collaboration with community to reflect your views, values and vision for the area.

The Robina Central Planning Review (the Review) is a project that will look to plan for Robina Central’s future by engaging the community and key stakeholders to plan for the next 20 years.

If you have any questions about the Review, you can email us at robinareview@goldcoast.qld.gov.au or give us a call on 1300 151 267.

  • The Community & Stakeholder Engagement Summary Report says the Robina Central Planning Review will consider transport infrastructure requirements beyond 2041. I assume this is referring to the Infrastructure Investigation Report. The only public transport study I can find is the Central Gold Coast East West Passenger Transport Study which covers connecting Robina to Miami. In my opinion, proposals to increase density of population, of employment etc to have Robina Central be a regional centre requires significant improvement in public transport. Has there been any consideration to improving public transport services to Mudgeeraba, north to Southport, extending heavy rail to Elanora / Palm Beach? I also note current high speed plans are for a GC spur line to terminate in Robina. Does this have any bearing on this review or even Faster Rail to Brisbane?

    Hi Wayne

    Thank you for your question!

Public transport is the responsibility of the Queensland Government.  The Robina Central Planning Review has engaged with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to provide input into Robina’s transport future.

The City is an advocate for improved public transport offerings for Robina Central including high frequency east-west passenger transport links between Robina Station and the light rail coastal corridor, the extension of the heavy rail line to the Gold Coast Airport, improved customer experiences and travel times on the Brisbane – Gold Coast passenger rail line and better public transport services west of the Pacific Motorway. These kings of public transport are needed to support existing residents and potential future increases in population and employment in the region.

The City is not aware of any Federal and State government decisions being made about the Brisbane – Gold Coast Faster Rail other than investment announcements to improve capacity and travel time outcomes between Kuraby and Beenleigh Stations.

  • With the intent to increase the housing and mixed use space in this area, is there serious conditions being discussed for the Active Transport links in, through and out of the area? Traffic is already hazardous to pedestrians and cyclists, with such an increase in development how is this being accounted for?

    Hi PhemiRoss,

    Thank you for your question!

The City is currently undertaking the Robina Walking Network Plan. The study aims to identify better ways to encourage and promote walking and other forms of active travel for locals and visitors. To find out more please visit: https://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/Services/Projects-works/Robina-Walking-Network-Plan. The outcomes of the Robina Walking Network Plan will inform a prioritised list of active transport infrastructure proposals for future investment. The Robina Central Planning Review and the Robina Walking Network Plan will inform one another to plan for effective Active Transport links.
